ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ!

Yours' truly has been criticized by various well intentioned colleagues and friends for having a hankering for owning a HK416 assault rifle. The main objection to the rifle is its use of the 5.56X 45mm (.223) military cartridge. Such criticisms are all well and good if the purpose of the weapon is to knock down an opponent at ranges of more than 100 meters. For that purpose a larger bore rifle is more appropriate. As ΛΕΟΝΙΔΑΣ is not a highly trained sniper and has been known to handle his firearms with a degree of salutary neglect when it comes to cleaning, the new item from Heckler and Koch seems to be the ideal solution. What a pity that the process for obtaining a license to own a fully automatic weapon is so arduous.

I'm simply partial to "distance", and knockdown power, I suppose. The 12.7 Dragunov was a pretty good weapon out to about 5oo meters....

BUT, my friend, if you are in need of something like Boat Security? Heh, check THIS baby out.

My Little, meek Lady in Florida sent it to me.....she's swell.

I want one! Post that Baby, and check the last portion of the film for the grenade rounds.

Nobody is going to play Pirate with you.

The .223 round is fine for anything within 100 meters or so, and will pass for anything even out to 250 meters, although it is sketchy for man-sized game at that distance. The best part is that since you will most likely never have to discharge it in anger, the .223 round is cheap, allowing for hours and hours of cheap entertainment. Additionally, if you were to ever dicharge it in anger, ammo would most likely be hard to come by. 12.7 dragunov is almost impossible to find now, much less after all hell breaks loose. You can bet that you'll be able to find .223"lying around"

I do not think you'd be disappointed with .223. It is a hell of a lot better than a hoplon, xiphos, and dory, and your namesake and his contemporaries seems to have done fine with those at Marathon, Thermopylae, and Platea...

Looks like those keen sabot rounds will work in my Mossberg 590. I'll put them on the wish list. No need anymore for boat security. We have put those toys away.

ΛΕΟΝΙΔΑΣ, left you a little "clickie thingie" in my most recent post. Thought you and Mrs. L. would enjoy it.

Chrissie from PCFree Zone is a hoot.

Goober,
We were a little late to Marathon (religeous duties) and sent too few to Thermopylae but definitely kicked ass at Plataea.

Have a friend who owns one. Single, lives w/ mom, spends all his money on guns. God I envy him sometimes.

Anyway, the lack of a traditional gas tube does, in fact, do exactly what they claim.

If you're worried about the lack of ummmph behind a 5.56, then why not just drool over the HK-417 instead of the HK-416. 417 comes in the potent 7.62 x 51.

I love my H&K's. They are all superb firearms. But I think this sucks!. I don't think H&K had much to lose by maintaining a relationship with Blackwater if anything at all. The German Govt prompted this divorce.
