"Ace and Cat Callaway stand in front of their log home as it continues to burn Thursday afternoon. Fire departments responded within minutes, but ended their service when they determined that the structure fell just outside their fire service area boundary."

Looks like the "last frontier" has finally succumbed to the predations of the ubiquitous tax man. This is said in all seriousness as we were under the impression that a spirit of "help your neighbor" obtained in frontier locations.

A Fairbanks, Alaska couple lost a home to fire Thursday because it was just outside the fire service [taxed] area and firefighters turned back from the scene [of the burning house].

Ace Callaway, the owner of the house, said officials told him his house was only 180 feet outside the area that the Steese Area Volunteer Fire Department covers, effectively putting it on the wrong side of the road. The nearest fire department is less than two miles away. Callaway says he's been paying for fire insurance for years and he assumed that the department covered a large radius.

From reading the story however, some suspicions do arise: 1) The homeowners are involved in a divorce 2) A "remodeling" was being planned and 3) Due to the planned "remodeling" a lot of their "furnishings were elsewhere". Additionally, the actions of the fire department were apparently not a complete surprise as evidenced by the final sentence of the article: "People on this side of the road are scared to death what will happen to them if their homes catch on fire,".

Tis The Season

Fires are raging in the banlieue tonight. Two boys aged 15 and 16 riding on a [stolen] mini-motorcycle (prohibited on the road) hit a police car this afternoon in Villiers-le-Bel. The boys, who weren’t wearing helmets, were killed. Hundreds of enraged men and boys (what, no women in burkas?) are tearing up the neighborhood.

Le Parisien reports that they burned down a Peugeot dealership, sacked a train station and shops, tore up a McDonald’s, stole the day’s receipts and attacked customers, smashed and burned cars, and are still going strong. A police commissioner who tried to talk to the mob was attacked with iron rods; his face and skull are fractured. A police station was burned down, eight policemen and one firefighter were injured.

What are the chances these "youths" just happen to be affiliated with a certain "religion of peace"? Meanwhile several hundred new immigrants will enter France (mostly from North Africa) in the next month.

"Peace" Prize?

Today our suspicions are confirmed. This year's Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to former vice president Al Gore for his efforts in promoting awareness of anthropogenic global warming. Mr Gore thus joins the list of "progressive" icons to receive that once prestigious award such as Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter. I, for one am a bit puzzled as to how Mr Gore's crusade to raise awareness of man's contribution toward the causes of climate change directly relates to the subject category of "Peace".

Upon further reflection however, we can detect a tenuous connection. Bear with me here while I assist all and sundry in connecting these dots. Peace is the absence of war; therefore anyone connected to the waging of war would necessarily impact peace. Mr. Gore's crusade to end western industrial civilization as we know it by advocating reductions in carbon emissions and the resulting economic dislocations must qualify as war by any reasonable definition. We must however expand our vision further to understand how this relates to the achievement of Peace. After western civilization is crippled by implementing the means Mr. Gore advocates (a geometric expansion of the power of government over us) to wit, socialism; "peace" will reign supreme throughout the planet, for the means to resist the islamofascists will no longer obtain. This is indeed a brilliant strategic concept definitely worthy of a prestigious award such as the Nobel Prize for Peace which has for some time now been nothing more than the leftist "Man of the Year" citation.

As for Mr. Carter, his war on the Jews obviously qualifies his justly awarded Nobel prize. When his "Pax Islamicus" prevails in the Middle East and the global caliphate is established, "peace" will reign throughout the lands of the Earth.

Mr. Arafat's terrorist war on Israel and the United States were of such worthy significance as to justify his award of the coveted "progressive" Nobel Peace prize. What a pity that the nomination of Adolf Hitler for the award was withdrawn in 1939. We wonder how the nominations of Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao tse Tung managed to be overlooked.

Interesting Times. Sarkozy Derangement Syndrome

The "celebrations" across the nation continue subsequent to the victory of Sarkozy in yesterday's French presidential election. Le Figaro reports that only 100 vehicles were torched and a mere dozen police injured. It sounds as if the leftists who are unhappy with the outcome have yet to get up to speed. Fear not! Things could get interesting during the next few weeks in that bastion of western democracy.
The big questions in ΛΕΟΝΙΔΑΣ's mind are: Is this backlash the triggering event in a civil war? Where will the refugees flee to? (St. Barthélemy and St. Martin have already absorbed large numbers of those Frenchmen who have had the means to flee) Guadeloupe and Martinique are likely destinations. Stay tuned to determine if Sarkozy receives the G.W. Bush treatment.

The Whites of Their Eyes

The Norwegian Blogger Fjordman outlines how the coming European civil war will unfold. I am substituting America for Britain in this quote but this is how ΛΕΟΝΙΔΑΣ believes it will transpire:

1. The U.S. government continues its suicidal policy of promoting Multiculturalism and cracking down on American “racists”. (a federal "hate crime" law has recently passed the House)
2. A precipitating incident by an immigrant [or Islamist] group of immigrants sparks violence, with mobs of angry Americans taking the law into their own hands. ( May day "protest" as in Los Angeles)
3. The riot police and possibly military troops are summoned by the government to quell the “racist hooligans.”
4. At this point a true civil war has begun, with the Government and civil authorities, in tacit alliance with the Islamists, [or illegal immigrants] fighting native Americans.
5. Elements of the police and the military are reluctant to fight against their own countrymen — with whom they are in broad agreement — and they defect to the “racist” side of the conflict.
6. Next step…? Perhaps a full civil war?

Here in the U.S. the scenario will play out somewhat differently time wise, as a prerequisite to the above will require the disarming of the populace. The de facto abrogation of the 2nd Amendment has already occurred.

Fjordman believes that the situation in Sweden has already passed the tipping point of self disintegration as a result of the welfare state, multiculturalism and denial which will in fact cause its implosion within the next decade. Fjordman's prognosis for Sweden is not optimistic: “Sweden as we know it now will cease to exist. It’s hard to say what will take its place. It’s not a pleasant thing to contemplate.”
ΛΕΟΝΙΔΑΣ would advise those concerned with liberty in the western hemisphere to perhaps bury their powder supplies in a dry place.
