Ominous bedfellows

The conduct of the so called "war on terror" has produced strange bedfellows indeed. The fundamentalists who wish to extinguish western civilization are being joined by groups which will top the Islamic hit list should their (the Islamist's) agenda prevail. With regard to the collectivists:

...the disintegration of the communist block was a painful setback for the their hopes and aspirations. Although its loathing of capitalism and the West continued unabated, there was no one – at least for the time being – capable of taking them on.

This changed dramatically on September 11, 2001 when Islamic radicals burst on the scene in a spectacular fashion. Their attack and subsequent statements left no doubt about their goal – the annihilation of Western civilization. And like communists before them, they see capitalism as the source of our evil which is something their choice of target made painfully clear.

September 11 electrified the Left. More than a decade after the fall of the Berlin Wall, there was once again someone whose thinking about the West and capitalism agreed with its own. Most importantly, Islamists possessed the will and capability to destabilize or perhaps even bring down the object of their hate.

Sensing the opportunity, the Left immediately sprang to action. The first order of business was to dampen the retaliatory wrath of the United States. The effort was already underway on September 12 when a missive appeared on a popular leftist website urging restraint in responding to the attack.

Since then the Left has done everything it could to undermine our efforts in the "War on Terror".

With regard to the wing of the Democratic party currently supporting the Islamists this is understandable. They are a party out of power and see partisan advantage in discrediting the governing administration. What is more puzzling is the joining in this cacophony by the "pacifist" wing of the libertarian movement. The libertarians' views are diametrically opposed to the Islamists stated aims and both of these groups (the collectivists and the libertarians) will in turn be annihilated by the Islamists should they prevail: and make no mistake, if the current struggle is lost due to the undermining of the west’s will to resist, the Islamists will prevail.

If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

As communist regimes continue to fail around the world, these nuts still don't understand that the whole idea if failed. Look at Russia. That country is beginning to prosper again via captialism even though there is a whole generation or two that doesn't know how to work. They were never rewarded for work and that ethic has never been instilled.
